Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)

ECMO is a machine support with artificial work of human being when heart not able to function properly as temporary base. The ECMO machine is similar to the heart-lung bypass machine used in open heart surgery. It pumps and oxygenates a patient’s blood outside the body, allowing the heart and lungs to rest. ECMO may be used to help people who are very ill with conditions of the heart and lungs or who are waiting for or recovering from a heart transplant.
