  Plexiform neurofibromas are virtually pathognomonic of NF-1. They are generally bulky tumours usually associated with major nerve trunks and plexuses. They are rope-like, diffusely, infiltrating, non-circumscribed lesions that resemble a bag of warms. The scalp and orbits are common sites. Most PNFs remain benign and only 10%-15% of deep-seated PNFs are at risk of developing into MPNSTs.
